Slippery Knowledge and National Underdevelopment: Toward a Systematic Paradigm Shift for Integrating Technical Knowledge into the Educational System
This paper addresses the problem of underdevelopment in developing countries from a new perspective, focusing on the role of "Slippery Knowledge" in perpetuating institutional weakness and economic dependency. The paper introduces this concept as an addition not previously articulated in this formulation in the Arab educational and economic literature, linking it to institutional theory as presented in "Why Nations Fail" by Acemoglu and Robinson, while taking into account the scientific criticism directed at this theory. The paper hypothesizes that the prevalence of Slippery Knowledge in educational institutions produces individual's incapable of building and producing, thus hindering the formation of strong inclusive institutions; while "Technical Knowledge" constitutes the fundamental foundation for building such institutions and escaping the cycle of underdevelopment. The paper concludes with a proposal for engineering an educational system capable of producing Technical Knowledge across all its stages, from kindergarten to doctorate, based on a comparative analysis of the experiences of South Korea, China, Singapore, and a selection of Arab countries.
