The study aims to identify the social and economic motives for the marriage of Libyan women to foreigners, and to identify the problems arising from this type of marriage .This is a descriptive study applied to a sample of 40 Libyan women married to foreigners in the city of Benghazi .The study reached a set of key findings, the most important of which are social motives such as obtaining more social respect and appreciation from the foreign husband compared to the Libyan husband,fear of loneliness and lack of safetysocial pressure due to delayed marriage, destiny (Fate) and the existence of a kinship link, emotional motives and the availability of good husband specifications.
As for economic motives, The desire to obtain foreign residency or nationality to improve their living situation, the desire to achieve financial stability, and the high cost of local marriage in Libyan society.
The study concluded that Libyan women marrying to a foreigner results in several problems, such as complicated procedures when registering children and obtaining official documents, difficulty in officially registering the marriage by the state, which delays official recognition, problems in raising children, feeling isolated and lonely after marriage, feeling of regret as a result of the failure to achieve economic expectations after marriage, anxiety and over thinking the future of the children and fear of the husband returning to his country, children being exposed to bullying, and the mother and children being subjected to a degrading view.
